Enabling Discoveries with Fast Machine Learning --Dylan Rankin (UPenn)

America/Los_Angeles
Description
The use of machine learning (ML) in high energy physics has exploded in the past decade. While it has provide impressive improvements across a broad range of use cases, it has typically been limited to uses with data already collected by experiments. I will discuss the challenges involved with the use of ML in trigger and data acquisition systems, a solution in the form of a tool called hls4ml, and specific applications of this tool for use in LHC trigger systems to improve the potential for the discovery of new physics. Finally I will discuss some exciting developments on the horizon in this area of research.
