Description

The silicon tracking detector of the CMS experiment will be fully replaced in order to collect proton-proton collision data at the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). The portion of the tracking detector at high radii, called the Outer Tracker (OT), consists of six barrel layers and five endcap disks. The detector will be constructed of two types of modules: 2S modules (made up of two strip sensors) and PS modules (made of one strip and one macro-pixel sensor).  The design of the Outer Tracker must address challenges of maintaining good performance under HL-LHC data-taking conditions, provide robust tracking capabilities, and contribute to the selection of data in the hardware level (L1) trigger.  Particular emphasis will be placed on the design and performance of the Macro-Pixel Sub-Assembly, or MaPSA, which forms part of the PS module.
