Study of target and hadron beam fragmentation for Charged Particle Therapy

In Hadron Therapy, the biological damage due to beam-induced tissue fragmentation is still an open issue. To investigate it, we realized two experiments. The FOOT experiment, using an inverse kinematics approach, is performing the first measurements of nuclear fragmentation cross sections, necessary to provide key data for improving RBE models. The DAMON project explores the first-ever direct measurement of target fragmentation induced by proton beams. Results from both experiments will be shown.
