DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Wolfgang Altmannshofer\n\nRare decays of B mesons pr
ovide sensitive probes of physics beyond the Standard Model. Since many ye
ars\, measurements of angular observables in the decay B -> K* mu mu by th
e LHCb experiment have attracted considerable attention\, in particular du
e to the persistent discrepancy in the observable P5'. More recent results
also hint at a non-zero value for the observable S7\, raising important q
uestions about the origin of these anomalies. In this seminar\, I will disc
uss the interpretation of the new LHCb measurements\, focusing on the inte
rplay between possible new physics contributions and hadronic effects. In
 particular\, I will explain why a non-zero S7 points to sizable hadronic c
ontributions with strong phases\, and how such effects may simultaneously
account for the observed deviation in P5'. Finally\, I will discuss the ro
le of CP asymmetries as probes of new physics and summarize the implicatio
ns of combined fits of hadronic parameters and Wilson coefficients.\n\nhtt
